In Clinic: Skin conditions and Herbal Creams

With every single client who walks through my doors (or virtual doors) the first consult is always a comprehensive case take.  I’m asking  you a BUNCH of questions about a bunch of different body systems, all while you are telling me your story. From here my treatment differs but we definitely need to address the internal health and sometimes the external too. Especially with skin conditions.

In fact, our skin is actually our body’s LARGEST detoxification organ. And when something’s showing up through the skin it’s often a sign of imbalance within.

So we must address the internal but we often need to address the external too. And this is where I can blend a unique herbal cream for your needs. Helping your condition topically can help to relieve discomfort, inflammation and begin to support skin healing all while we treat your inner systems.

Let’s take a look at a few of the goodies we can pop in a cream to help you get back on track.

My new labels for my Herbal Cream Blends are by the awesome OzStickerPrinting

Chamomile

Chamomile is anti-inflammatory, inhibits the occurrence of ulceration, promotes wound healing and stimulates skin metabolism - Professor Kerry Bone

St Johns Wort

St Johns has been used as a remedy since ancient times, particularly to treat ulcers, burns, wounds and bacterial diseases - Professor Kerry Bone. It’s also used in viral skin conditions including shingles, chickenpox or molluscum.

Calendula

Calendula has anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties to soothe and heal wounds, eczema, and diaper rash. It can promote skin hydration and firmness.

 Zinc

A power topical nutrients helps cells to regenerate, has antiseptic properties, enhances collagen synthesis, helps balance the skins oil production and is an all round anti-inflammatory.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D helps to protect our skin membrane, it also helps to dial down that inflammation in many skin conditions. It may also help to normalise cell turnover, preventing build-up of dead cells (especially in psoriasis).

Of course, each herbal cream is tailored to the individual and their unique presenting issues and that’s where the magic lies!

My gorgeous sticker labels are printed by Oz Sticker Printing ~ they are super helpful with sizing and sticker type specifics and the finished product is beautiful!

In my Naturopathic clinic…

Eczema in clinic

I quite often see skin conditions presenting in my clinic, a common one is eczema or dermatitis. Now, there is a HUGE internal aspect to this condition we must look at your gut health (there is always a gut component here), look at your other detoxification pathways including your lymphatics and liver and look at your immune system. But I will always recommend a cream as topical treatment too, just to help heal that skin membrane while we are working internally.

Shingles in clinic

Another common condition is shingles, this is a viral infection that results in blister like pimples on the skin. Internally we are working at supporting that immune health, nervous system, dialling down inflammation and preventing nerve pain BUT externally we can create a cream filled with anti-viral herbs to help those blisters recover quicker.
